Yasin Malik

Yasin is a Kashmiri revolutionary and chairman of the Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) arrested in April of 2019. The JKLF advocated for a fully independent Kashmir and gave Kashmiris a secular alternative to the clericalist and pro-Pakistan political camps. The group gave up armed rebellion in the disputed region in 1994. Yasin pled guilty to all charges, stating to the Judge “If seeking Azadi (freedom) is a crime, then I am ready to accept this crime and its consequences.”

On May 25, 2022 he was sentenced by the Indian state to life imprisonment plus 10 years of slave labor.
