Igor Banсer – antifascist and musician from Grodno. He was detained on October 20, 2020 and charged under part 1 of article 339 (hooliganism) for a performance in front of a police car. The real reason behind his arrest and detention was his uncompromised opposition to the Belarussian dictatorial regime, his participation in protests and his long-term political activity.

Ryan Roberts

Ryan was arrested with over 75 people after the confrontation with the police at Bristol’s Bridewell police station at the Kill the Bill demonstration on March 21st 2021. He was convicted of riot and four counts of arson, and sentenced on the 17th December 2021 at Bristol Crown Court to a total of 14 years in prison. Three of the sentences run consecutively and only one concurrently, hence the brutal sentence of 14 years. As it is over seven years, it means he has to do two-thirds of the sentence (9 years and 4 months).

Bristol Kill the Bill

What happened on 21st March, 2021 was an outpouring of rage against the violence of the police. The crowd fought back after police officers attacked the crowd with batons and riot shields. Pepper spray was used indiscriminately, people were charged with police horses. The protesters fought back, seizing police riot shields, helmets and batons to defend themselves. By the end of the evening several police vehicles had been set on fire.

We need to be ready to defend ourselves against the police, and stand with those facing repression and criminalisation.
