Sibel Balac is a former teacher who resigned from her job in protest of more than 100,000 arbitrary layoffs in the public sector in the wake of the state of emergency declared in 2016. She supported the sit-in on Yüksel Street in Ankara, which was started by dismissed academic Nuriye Gülmen and became internationally known.
Maoj is a labor organizer from Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) who was arrested on false charges. At the time of his arrest, Maga was involved in organizing transport strikes with transport group PISTON. He was also organizing trade unions with labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno. He is just one of scores of union organisers who have been harassed, threatened with death, and arrested under the government of President Rodrigo Duterte.
